About the team
Stripe will succeed at our mission of increasing the GDP of the internet only if we prove ourselves worthy of our users’ trust. Secure Frameworks builds the core security libraries and frameworks that provide the foundations for every other system at Stripe, protecting our users from known security threats. We specialise in web security and cryptography, building security guarantees into our foundations so security is always on by default. We abstract security complexity, and provide intuitive, out-of-the box solutions for common concerns, enabling teams to integrate quickly and get on with their work.
What you’ll do
Responsibilities
- Be a leader of strategy and planning. Scope and lead large technical projects with enormous impact across many teams that will advance Stripe’s product security beyond state of the art
- Design, build, and maintain the core security frameworks, services and APIs used by all of Stripe’s engineering teams including hands-on writing code
- Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes
- Arbitrate critical decisions, considering software best practices, system realities, and numerous stakeholders’ concerns
- Own charter-level metrics and goals
- Mentor and develop other technical leaders; creating opportunities for those around you
- Autonomously choose to work on problems which bring high leverage to yourself and Stripe

Minimum requirements
- Empathy, strong communication skills and a deep respect for the power of collaboration
- A learning mindset, regardless of level or experience
- A strong technical background, including 10+ years of experience in software engineering, architecture and systems design
- Proven experience leading company-wide initiatives or influencing tech roadmap planning and execution.
- The ability to drive clear next steps when encountering ambiguous spaces without clear lines of ownership
- High standards for code quality and a constructive attitude to help others raise the bar
